The Toronto and York Region Labour Council, which is a municipal labour body of 220 000 union members from across Toronto and York Region, after a thorough vetting process of several candidates in the race, has endorsed Kevin Rupasinghe as the new City Councillor for Ward 20, Scarborough Southwest. Kevin is from Scarborough Southwest and has been an advocate for the ward for many years, fighting for safer, more accessible communities, affordable housing and climate justice. He has the experience working with current city councillors and staff as a cities engineer, and he believes in investing in crucial public services such as libraries. We encourage library workers and members of the public in Ward 20 to vote for Kevin Rupasinghe in this upcoming by-election in Scarborough Southwest.
The Toronto Public Library Workers Union is hosting a Library Workers Canvass for Kevin on Tuesday, November 28th, from 10:00am-1:00pm. If you’re interested in joining the Political Action Committee and members of the Executive Board on this canvass, please sign up at kevrup.ca/libraryworkers. You don’t need to live in the ward or be a library worker to help out. All are welcome, including first timers!
For details about Kevin’s campaign, please visit kevinrupasinghe.ca. If you have questions about the labour canvass please don’t hesitate to reach out at [email protected].
In Solidarity,
Emma Lee
