*Update: FYI, Aysha Harun, Ainy’s niece closed down the fundraiser before the Local was able to donate due to Ainy’s insurance covering the costs of transport back home.
Aysha announced that the funds raised would go towards the medical costs for Ainy’s family members who were also injured in the accident and who required extensive procedures and physiotherapy.
Ainy has since passed away due to her injuries from the accident. The Local sends our deepest condolences to Ainy’s family and friends.
Toronto Public Library Workers,
We’re saddened to hear that Ainy Mohammed Harun, a recently retired Toronto Public Library Worker, was involved in a minibus accident on July 7th, 2022.
She was on her way back from her sister’s funeral in Ethiopia, just outside Addis Ababa. Ainy and other family members suffered serious injuries, with Ainy’s being the most critical.
She is currently in a coma, suffering from a brain injury. Her family is desperate to fly Ainy back to Toronto by air ambulance, to Sunnybrook Hospital, where she would receive the care she needs to recover.
Please see the link below for more information; share and donate if you can to help Ainy and her family.
The Toronto Public Library Workers Union will be donating to the fundraiser to help support her, on behalf of all members.
In solidarity,
Local 4948
